Current Campaign: 2 km turbine separation distance from homes

This website aims to help individuals and groups concerned about industrial wind turbines (those that are at least 50m in height) throughout Aberdeenshire.

If there are turbine plans of concern in your area, please let us know and we shall add them to the site.

June 2010: There are currently 300+ industrial turbines erected or at various stages of planning throughout Aberdeenshire. The map below shows those listed with Aberdeenshire Council Planning Department. The locations are taken from planning applications which are available to view on Aberdeenshire Council's website.

Some of the proposed turbines are appropriately-sited a suitable distance from nearby homes. Unfortunately, some of the proposed turbines are inappropriately-sited too close to homes, in contravention of Aberdeenshire and Scottish Planning policies.

One developing agent recently described Aberdeenshire Council's attitude to wind turbine plans as 'more relaxed' than other local authorities in Scotland. Not only does this cause concern to many Aberdeenshire residents, we believe it is damaging to the reputation of Aberdeenshire Council Planning Department and to the wind energy industry – many people believe that some parties involved in the wind energy industry are submitting inappropriately-sited turbine plans in order to make a profit at the expense of nearby residents.

CAWT's current campaign is for a mandatory minimum separation distance of 2km, as specified in Scottish Planning Policy (February 2010 – click here to read – see paragraph 190) between industrial wind turbines and homes. If the wind energy industry is unwilling or unable to self-regulate in this matter, we ask that local authorities and/or Scottish Government implement appropriate legislation to protect the amenity of residents.
