Community benefit payments contain your money.
Due to the nature of onshore wind turbine subsidies, the payments that turbine owners receive come from your electricity bills. When a turbine owner offers to pass on some of their profit to the local community, it is effectively your money that is being re-distributed. Your money makes up most of the developer's profits, though they are under no obligation to share any of that with the local community. What they do offer to share is often less than 1% of their revenue – revenue made up of your money.
