MP Julian Smith raises wind farm concerns

Craven MP Julian Smith has passed on constituents’ concerns about the construction of wind farms in the region at a meeting with the Prime Minister.

The Conservative politician joined a group of MPs at a meeting with David Cameron to discuss onshore wind turbines.

Eight MPs met with the PM, energy minister Charles Hendry and planning minister Greg Clark at Downing Street to discuss their concerns about the planning process for onshore wind farms and the procedures used by developers.

The meeting was co-ordinated by Chris Heaton-Harris who came to speak to residents from across the Skipton and Ripon constituency last month on the subject of onshore wind developments.

Mr Smith said: “I was pleased to be able to bring the concerns of communities across my constituency directly to the Prime Minister.

“I am confident he took on board the worries of our constituents about onshore wind and the tactics often employed by developers who want to put up turbines.

“The group of MPs concerned about this issue will continue to work together to present our views to Ministers.”
